TrueProof Pro Installation and Migration

Release status — October 2, 2026: TrueProof 2.4.0 is the current public WordPress.org release. A separate Free 2.5.0 + Pro 1.0.0 architecture is prepared for a migration pilot, but Free 2.5.0 has not yet been publicly released. Do not assume an update is available because you can download the add-on.

Using the current public release

  1. Install TrueProof from WordPress.org and keep it active.
  2. Open Settings → TrueProof. Core WooCommerce orders and approved comments work without a paid licence.
  3. If you already bought Pro or Agency, enter the key from your existing fulfilment email in the 2.4.0 Licence section and activate it.
  4. Choose the paid source or supported page-context rule you actually need, save, then inspect your public events endpoint and a logged-out page.

A registration notification means a WordPress account was created, not that someone bought a membership. EDD notifications currently use a generic purchase action rather than the product name. Page-context rules are not arbitrary URL matching or a dedicated cart/checkout exclusion system.

Preparing an existing paid site for the separate add-on

Do not uninstall TrueProof. Uninstalling the base plugin deletes its settings. Updating or deactivating it is different. Back up your site and use staging before a production migration.

  1. Keep TrueProof 2.4.0 active and record your enabled sources, identity mode, placement and timing settings. Keep the licence key private.
  2. Download the separate Pro add-on using your existing valid Pro or Agency key. This manual download does not buy another licence or consume a site activation.
  3. Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, upload trueproof-pro-1.0.0.zip, install and activate it. On the legacy 2.4.x base it stays dormant; the legacy base continues serving the existing features.
  4. Wait for the confirmed Free 2.5.0 release or an explicitly arranged staging pilot. Keep both plugins active when updating the base. The add-on reuses the saved licence and settings.
  5. After migration, verify WooCommerce, your paid source, anonymised public fields and each intended page scope. Compare the logged-out endpoint before and after. Do not create a real payment just to test a bubble.

If Free 2.5.0 is installed without the Pro add-on, the paid source implementations are absent. Your stored licence and preferences are retained, but paid sources and context rules need the add-on to operate. Do not perform that update on a paid production site without first installing the add-on.

What the licence download sends

The download form submits your licence key to the TrueProof store for validation. Legacy keys may use the existing store relay. It does not submit notification-source order records, put your key in the URL or load our marketing analytics. The response is private and non-cacheable. The add-on ZIP is outside the public document root and is streamed only after a valid paid licence is checked.

Installing the ZIP is manual: the Free plugin does not silently download or install remote executable code. The add-on is not yet a promise of automatic updates; follow the published release instructions.

Verification and recovery

We are looking for real WooCommerce or EDD store owners and agencies willing to test setup. Share the workflow you need and whether the Free path already solves it. Honest usability feedback is welcome; there is no requirement to purchase or leave a positive review.

For the current free WooCommerce release, start with the staging feedback checklist. It explains what to verify, what information to share and what must remain private.
